The Audubon String Quartet
At the International String Quartet Competition in England in 1979, the Audubon String Quartet was the first American string quartet to win a first prize. In 1981, the Quartet made a three-week tour of Mainland China at the invitation of the Chinese Ministry of C u l t u r e , the first American quartet to visit the People's Republic. In addition to classic chamber music, its repertoire "includes new works by a culturally diverse community of contemporary composers." The Quartet's name was derived from the beauty of Audubon Park in New Orleans, near where the founders lived in 1974. |
