The Audubon String Quartet

Picture of the Audubon String Quartet

At the International String Quartet Competition in England in 1979, the Audubon String Quartet was the first American string quartet to win a first prize. In 1981, the Quartet made a three-week tour of Mainland China at the invitation of the Chinese Ministry of C u l t u r e , the first American quartet to visit the People's Republic. In addition to classic chamber music, its repertoire "includes new works by a culturally diverse community of contemporary composers." The Quartet's name was derived from the beauty of Audubon Park in New Orleans, near where the founders lived in 1974.
