Fauré Quartett

Fauré Quartett

The musicians of the Fauré Quartett formed the ensemble in 1995, choosing its name in honor of Gabriel Fauré because of his two piano quartets. In 2006, the quartet signed a contract with Deutsche Gramophone for the Mozart piano quartets and the Op. 25 and Op. 60 piano quartets of Johannes Brahms. The ensemble is “Quartet-in- Residence” at the Kalrsruhe Music Lyceum. This title had not been awarded for 30 years and had never been given to a piano quartet.

Violinist Erika Geldsetzer from Betzdorf began playing at age six.
She became the youngest student at the Cologne Music Academy, followed by graduation from Karlsruhe Music Conservatory and post-graduate study at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She is a founding member of the Villa Musica String Quartet, with whom she performs and records regularly.

Pianist Dirk Mommertz, born in 1974 in Mainz, first studied the violin, culminating with four years of work with the Alban Berg Quartet. He went on to study piano in Karlsruhe, Paris, Frankfurt and Cologne. He has received a total of 28 national and international awards. He was an assistant of music theory at the Karlsruhe Music Conservatory from 1997 to 1999 and a lecturer in piano from 2000 to 2005. In 2005, he became a chamber music professor at the Folkwang Musikhochschule in Essen.

Violist Sascha Frömbling, born in 1974 in Mexico City, studied at the Karlsruhe Music Conservatory. He completed his concert exam at the Berlin University of the Arts in 2004. He is a lecturer at the National Youth Orchestra of Rhineland-Palatinate and teaches viola and chamber music privately. Since 2006 he has performed as an assistant with the Berlin Philharmonic.

Cellist Konstantin Heidrich was born in Hamburg in 1975 and was encouraged in his music by his father, Peter Heidrich, violinist and composer. After graduation from Musikhochschule Lübeck, he entered Karlsruhe Music Conservatory, where he completed both the Orchestra and the Artistic Diploma degrees with honors. Starting in 2006, he taught a cello class at Musikhochschule Dresden. In April 2009 he received an appointment at the Berlin University of the Arts.
